The Four Horsemen (Part Four): The Black Horse

'Prophecy Watch' by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

Oppression has long been a scourge in human history, often leading to cycles of turmoil and strife. Among its devastating consequences is famine, symbolized by the third horseman of Revelation 6:5-6, who rides a black horse. The black color of the horse signifies scarcity, want, and famine to the Hebrew mind, evoking images of illness, dirt, and squalor among those who have nothing. This rider carries a pair of scales, representing the rationing of food during times of extreme shortage, where even bread, a staple, must be measured by weight due to its scarcity. The black horse and its rider follow the wars and deceptions of the preceding horsemen, bringing oppression, corruption, and famine that keep humanity weak and poor, causing many to perish. Their work is a grim harvest of the seeds sown by conflict and greed, ensuring that suffering and deprivation persist.
