Why Are We Called To Overcome?

Sermon by John O. Reid

Like physical leaven, if spiritual leaven is not checked quickly, it will expand exponentially, destroying the container housing it.

He Who Overcomes

Sermon by John O. Reid

It is not profitable to focus on the place of safety or the specific time of Christ's return, but instead to make the best use of our time to overcome.

The God of All Comfort

Sermonette by David C. Grabbe

God, described as the God of All Comfort, offers strength and relief in every tribulation, enabling us to comfort others with the same comfort we receive from Him. His presence, protection, and attention, as symbolized by the rod and staff in Psalm 23, provide relief from fear and anxiety, assuring us that we need not dread any evil. Through severe trials, as noted in Psalm 71:21, His comfort surrounds us completely, offering encouragement and security in every situation. God's word, judgments, and merciful kindness, as seen in Psalm 119, serve as sources of hope, counterbalancing our anxieties with soul-delighting comforts, as expressed in Psalm 94:19. In Isaiah 66:13, He promises to comfort us as a mother comforts her child, showing deep understanding of our struggles and providing consolation as only the Creator can. Regardless of past experiences or lack of human comfort in formative years, God stands ready to heal and comfort His children when we seek Him. As highlighted in Isaiah 61:1-2, His mission includes healing the brokenhearted and comforting all who mourn, a work carried forward by our Elder Brother. Through Their love poured into our hearts, we become conduits of comfort to others within the Family of God. This divine healing and comforting unfold over time, teaching us to relate to others as the Father and Son relate to each other, overcoming barriers that hinder connection. Through drawing closer to God, we overcome tendencies to be closed off, learning there is no shame in vulnerability before Him. His indwelling helps us conquer fears and anxieties, replacing the need to appease or compromise with trust in His strength. God's unchanging nature provides security, easing worries of abandonment, while His forbearance teaches us to bear with others rather than dismiss them. By His faith, we release the need to control, trusting Him with our lives and the world. As II Thessalonians 2:16-17 affirms, our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and our God and Father offer everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, comforting our hearts and establishing us in every good word and work. Until we accept what He offers, often through others as conduits, we cannot fully experience His comfort, but once received, it equips us to give relief to others with understanding.

Start Now to Begin Walking

The things of God require digging; it is time to walk step-by-step to the finish of the cause He has called us to complete.

Feelings of Inadequacy

Sermonette by Ryan McClure

Several Bible luminaries, including Moses and Jeremiah, expressed timidity that God had to correct in them. Paul relied on God to add what he lacked.

Good Old Age

Sermonette by James Beaubelle

Always understanding that it is God who orders life, our success at a good life depends on our yielding to His direction. We will reap what we sow.

Looking Forward (Part 1)

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

The church may fear that the Lord is delaying His coming, and scoffers make the seeming delay worse. However, God is giving people opportunity for repentance.
