The Miracle of God's Calling

Sermon by Kim Myers

The miracle of our calling is a profound wonder, for God has chosen us, not because we are wise or great in the eyes of the world, but because He works His purpose through everyday people. When Christ walked this earth, He did not call the well-established or high-profile priests, nor did He seek out professionals, religious leaders, or those deemed wise by worldly standards. Instead, He called fishermen like Peter, Andrew, James, and John—ordinary men, some without even their own business, working for their fathers. He called Philip, Bartholomew, and others whose occupations remain unknown, but who were not great in society's view. Even Matthew, a tax collector despised for serving the Romans, was among those chosen. None of these disciples were celebrated or renowned, yet God worked a miracle in them, just as He has in us. God did not call scholars, theologians, or celebrities, nor did He select those with high government positions or expertise in languages. Instead, He called us—common individuals—to understand His laws and way of life, a gift the world cannot comprehend. This should fill us with encouragement, for He has worked this same great miracle in each of us, showing that His calling is not reserved for the gifted or wise of this world, but for those He personally selects. Just as He called the apostle Paul in a dramatic fashion, so too has He called us under circumstances unique to our lives, proving that we are His through the miracle of our opened minds.
