Are the Blood Moons Significant? (Part Two)
CGG Weekly by David C. GrabbeThe disturbances in the sun, moon, and stars are significant as they relate to broader celestial and earthly events marked by God. Genesis 1:14 reveals that the Creator placed these lights in the firmament for signs and appointed times of gathering. When these lights are darkened on such designated times, it prompts consideration of their deeper meaning. Scripture links the darkening of the sun, moon, and stars with times of judgment, as seen in the Sixth Seal of Revelation, which signals the beginning of God's judgment on those persecuting His people. The book of Joel mentions the darkening of these heavenly bodies as precursors to God's wrath. Similarly, Isaiah 13 describes the dimming of heavenly lights as part of God's judgment on Babylon, and Ezekiel 32 connects the darkening of the heavens with the extinguishing of a nation's light by God. In Ecclesiastes 12, Solomon uses the darkening of the sun, moon, and stars to symbolize the dimming of a person's mind and vitality as they near the end of life, reflecting a personal judgment. Additionally, notable celestial events, including lunar and solar eclipses, align with significant days marked by God, such as the Feast of Tabernacles, the last day of the Hebrew year, and the year of release, suggesting a pattern beyond mere coincidence.
Are the Blood Moons Significant? (Part One)
CGG Weekly by David C. GrabbeThe sun, moon, and stars play a significant role in biblical prophecy, particularly in relation to cosmic disturbances foretold in Scripture. Joel 2:31 declares that the sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and awesome day of the Lord. This imagery of the moon turning red is also found in the Sixth Seal of Revelation, where it is accompanied by disturbances in the sun, stars falling, and the sky receding. These events signify far more than mere eclipses, indicating a complete upheaval of the current stability in the heavens. God has promised to shake the heavens, as stated in Haggai 2:6 and 2:21, and Christ Himself foretold in the Olivet Prophecy that the powers of the heavens will be shaken, as recorded in Matthew 24:29. Isaiah 13:13 further reveals that the earth will be moved out of its place during these cosmic events. Such disruptions will render it impossible to predict heavenly movements like eclipses, unlike the current predictable orbits that allow calculations centuries in advance. These disturbances are also tied to a specific sequence, occurring after the Fifth Seal, which involves the martyrdom of those who hold the testimony of God, and following a time of great tribulation unlike any before, as described in the Olivet Prophecy accounts. Therefore, the cosmic signs involving the sun, moon, and stars point to extraordinary events that transcend ordinary celestial phenomena and mark a profound shift in the order of creation.
