Beware the Second Flood (Part One)

CGG Weekly by David C. Grabbe

After the apocalyptic Flood from which God delivered only eight souls, He made a covenantal promise never again to send a globe-covering flood. However, a different kind of flood is foretold in Revelation 12:15, where the serpent spews water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, aiming to carry her away. This symbolic torrent represents a flood of words and information, emitted by the serpent with deadly intent toward God's people. The primary danger lies not in the specific content of these words but in their overwhelming volume, threatening to sweep believers away. This flood of information, often neutral but sometimes twisted, can keep human minds too busy to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. The sheer quantity of data, from entertainment, social, and news media, has the potential to dilute faith, eroding spiritual foundations and filling minds so full that they struggle to retain focus on the Creator God. Even spiritually neutral information can drown faith by overshadowing God's Word, turning living by faith into living by noise. The unrelenting surge of worldly waves can degrade the precious gift of God's truth, as almost none of this flood reinforces the extraordinary revelation given by God. The war for the mind rages on, and though God's Spirit aids in prioritizing and making wise decisions, believers must consciously filter what and how much they allow into their finite minds. Without deliberate focus on God's revelation, the flood from the serpent can undermine the relationship with the Father and the Son, drifting spiritual focus until one is lost at sea.

The Flood Is Upon Us!

'Personal' from John W. Ritenbaugh

Another flood is coming, as Jesus prophesied, with its headwaters already upon us, and the church is flailing in its currents. Some, distracted and unstable against the rising waters, are being swept away. Revelation 12:15 depicts the serpent, satan, spewing a torrent of water from his mouth like a flood, aimed directly at the woman, the church of God, in a diabolical attempt to sweep her away. In biblical metaphor, water can represent masses of people or powerful forces, and here it symbolizes a devastating deluge of misinformation. This flood, emanating from the serpent's mouth, the source of words, carries the power to destroy through deception, inundating the world with appealing lies that threaten to sweep even God's people into spiritual and physical danger by diverting their focus from the Kingdom of God. Satan, a master of deception, destroys through misinformation, as seen in Revelation 12:9 where he deceives the whole world. His tactics, evident since the Garden of Eden, involve twisting truth or outright lying to confuse, divide, and destroy. Today, this flood of misinformation intensifies through vast communication networks, spewing endless streams of politics, economics, social issues, and more, much of it irrelevant or false, distracting from what truly matters. This deluge creates confusion and apostasy, as foretold in II Thessalonians 2, where deception leads to a falling away from truth, focusing directly on spiritual lives and threatening condemnation for those who do not love the truth. The flood of deception is a precursor to more persuasive tactics aimed at deceiving the entire world into accepting the lie. For now, satan concentrates primarily on God's called-out ones, and God permits a sifting to occur. Those who wander, confused and lacking direction, risk being tossed about in the currents of this flood. Only the love of the truth will keep a person clear-minded, focused on the right areas of life, and motivated to overcome, leading God to save them. Now is the time to dig deeply into His Word to build a sure foundation and live upon what is found there, ensuring readiness for the trials ahead.

Beware the Second Flood (Part Two)

CGG Weekly by David C. Grabbe

A flood of words pours from the mouth of the serpent, as depicted in Revelation 12:15, aiming to sweep away God's people. This serpent-inspired flood of information poses a significant danger by reducing our ability to hear spiritually. If we are not listening, we will not act rightly, and our foundation will prove insufficient against this deluge. Satan can disrupt the process of salvation by drowning out God's Word with often harmless noise. The solution to the prodigious volume and intrinsic deceptions of this flood is to build a deep and abiding love of the truth, which signifies the spiritual reality of the Most High God and His firstborn Son, including Their purpose, will, and governance of our lives. If we love that reality, we will pursue it, protect it, and ensure that this Satanic flood does not sweep away our unique standing before God.
