Powerful Effects of the Holy Spirit
Sermon by Martin G. CollinsThe Holy Spirit, as the Spirit of love, profoundly influences the lives of those called by God. It is poured out abundantly within us, diffusing divine love into our hearts and strengthening us through trials and afflictions. This love of God, produced by the Holy Spirit, manifests as the fruit of Christ-like characteristics, ensuring that our love for each other reflects the love of God reigning within us. True love toward God is incomplete unless it leads us to love one another, diffusing itself over all within its range and becoming fully developed. Without this love for our brethren, our love for Him would be defective, failing to accomplish its designed purpose. Through the Holy Spirit, we are imbued with the faith of Christ, a living faith that demonstrates itself in love to God and to all humanity, showing kindness and compassion as evidence of its presence in our hearts. This Spirit also empowers us with the love that casts out fear, inspiring courage and boldness to face dangers and endure persecutions, making us strong in the face of challenges as we develop the holy, righteous character God desires for us.
What the Holy Spirit Does (2005)
Sermon by Richard T. RitenbaughThe Holy Spirit pours out the love of God into our hearts, serving as an overarching principle that guides all its actions. It will never inspire anything that is not an act of love, ensuring that all thoughts, words, and deeds prompted by the Spirit reflect this divine love. This love, shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, aligns with the essence of God's nature and purpose, working ultimately for the good of those who are called according to His will. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit is not a spirit of fear but one of power, love, and a sound mind. It imparts courage, strength, and godly reason, urging actions that are helpful and good rather than foolish or harmful. Any inspiration from the Holy Spirit will fall within these bounds, promoting sanity and sobriety in behavior, and ensuring that the actions it inspires are grounded in love and sound judgment.
The Spirit of Bondage
