Powerful Effects of the Holy Spirit
Sermon by Martin G. CollinsThe Holy Spirit serves as the power by which we may develop holy, righteous, perfect character, fulfilling God's purpose for humanity to reproduce Himself. It ignites and maintains the flame of pure doctrine within us, requiring our personal effort to cultivate this gift, as it does not grow by itself. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power to meet enemies and trials with confidence, to bear up under challenges, and to triumph in persecutions. This power, imparted through the Holy Spirit, inspires holy courage in our minds to develop God's characteristics. It is also a spirit of love that casts out fear, making us bold and constant, strengthening us to endure privation and persecution. Additionally, the Holy Spirit grants a sound mind, characterized by sobriety, seriousness, carefulness, and good judgment, ensuring a well-balanced and spiritually mature perspective where everything is in its proper place. This state of mind is essential for those called to perform duties and responsibilities in service to Jesus Christ. God provides the power of the Holy Spirit to those afflicted for their faithfulness, offering divine strength to uphold them when their own strength is insufficient.
The Holy Spirit and the Trinity (Part Five)
Sermon by John W. RitenbaughThe Holy Spirit serves as the power to obey, enabling us to submit to the will of God. It is through this Spirit that God empowers us to keep His law not just in letter, but in spirit, a task beyond mere human capability. God is seeking those who will worship Him in spirit and truth, and He provides the necessary power to achieve this. The Spirit of God takes up residence in our minds, not as a physical presence, but as the essence of His mind, guiding and impelling us to conduct life in a manner that glorifies Him. This divine influence is crucial for our transformation, as it purifies our thinking and equips us with the attributes needed to reflect God's character. Without this empowerment, we would be unable to change or fulfill our responsibility to Him, to His Word, and to others.
