commentary: Liberal Lunacy (Part One)
Strange Approaches To Problems

Given 23-Feb-13; Sermon #1144c; 13 minutes
The title of this commentary is "Liberal Lunacy." It is a potpourri of random thoughts about things, as well as items in the news that emphasize how differently man thinks of things than God states in His word. Although most of what I say will be in regard to what the liberal Democrats are saying and doing, it is not limited to them because the Republicans are infected, too.
I am convinced that if Christians are judged by the world, they would be considered overwhelmingly conservative. I believe this is the result of Christians being educated by God through our relationship with Him not to depart from His word.
Conservatism is derived from trust, and it is the result of experience with someone or something that has proved good—profitable. A conservative person is not necessarily an old "stick in the mud." Conservatives guard against the loss of what they have already proved is good. This includes laws, principles, examples, and practices that have already proved themselves to be reliable, to be trustworthy guides. This attitude springs from knowing that God's standard cannot be replaced by something better. Conservatives trust them.
This points to why Christians must come to know God intimately, as stated in John 17:3, and why He said that eternal life is to know God. This is why, in Proverbs 4:5-9, that it states that conservatism regarding God and His way is wisdom:
Proverbs 4:5-9 Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. [You see, a progressive will turn away, because he does not trust them.] Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; love her, and she will keep you. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Exalt her, and she will promote you; she will bring you honor, when you embrace her. She will place on your head an ornament of grace; a crown of glory she will deliver to you.
That is what we trust—the wisdom of God—and we will not depart from it because we know, and know that we know, it is going to benefit us. Progressives are always looking for something better. They are never satisfied.
On a somewhat different subject, you may find this interesting. AshleyMadison.com is a website those of sexually deviant minds seek out for whatever it is that they seek out there. That website reports that of their 13 million users, the city with the highest per capita totals of homosexuals, adulterers, and thieves in the United States of America is Washington, D. C.
Let's learn something interesting that may be of use to you in making a comparison. In Revelation 11:8, God calls Jerusalem—the capital city of Israel, since David made it so around 1000 BC—"Sodom and Egypt." The comparison that God made is obvious. Sodom was so sexually corrupt that God blasted it from existence as an eternal witness of His displeasure. Egypt is a type of this world as the place of spiritual enslavement of His people, from which such enslavement only He has the power to bring people out to freedom.
So, here we are, in the 21st century. We find evidence that our capital city seems to be spiritually paralleling ancient Jerusalem. Washington, DC, is the capital of prostitution, adultery, and thievery per capita in the United States of America. Is not that generally the way we Americans evaluate our federal government representatives?
This is not a comparison one desires to be included in, but that is exactly what Israel and Jerusalem are accused of by God in the Old Testament of His word, when God says that they departed from Him and worshipped other gods that were not gods (II Kings 19:28; Isaiah 37:29; Jeremiah 2:11; 16:20). Spiritual prostitution.
On another subject, a saw and read an email with pictures that almost made me sick with a mixture of envy, of disgust, but also understanding. It was a brief covering of China's passenger railroad system. Several times, Richard and I have written on Europe's version of high speed bullet trains, and they are good—far better than anything that we have here in this nation. The line that we traveled on (I believe it was three or four times) from Amsterdam to Paris, it seems to make that in no time at all. But I think that what I saw from that picture story regarding China makes even that fine system seem old. We have nothing, absolutely nothing, comparable here in the U.S.A. In fact, that system makes us look as though we are living in the Dark Ages.
But the clincher was at the end of the article. This marvelous system in China was built with what amounts to American money: China's profits from their dealings with the United States of America. The United States of America, when it was good, used to produce things like that because God was blessing us. But as our departure from Him, personally, and His moral standards has spread like cancer to every aspect of our nation's life, God has withdrawn His blessings, and we are dropping from the head to the tail.
In a way, I do not think I have ever been hit so quickly and so decisively hard by what is happening, as Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28 are being fulfilled as a result of our national sins. A picture is indeed worth 10,000 words. Progressivism—liberal lunacy—is producing it to its full.
Here's one last bit of lunacy. It is the attempt to control the sale and distribution of guns. There is no doubt that many are killed by others using them to fulfill their desires. But according to what one hears in the news, is that the solution that is going to control the sale of guns? If our leaders were following the lessons of history, and most especially the lessons from God's Word, they would not be attempting to solve the problem this way. But the missing ingredient—divine guidance, or even plain old common sense—is missing.
This administration is attempting to do exactly what Hitler, Stalin, and Mao did. They are blaming the weapon rather than the person committing the crimes, and while so doing, are actually encouraging even more criminal activity. To them, the issue is really one of control. They want to control us. It is deviousness—our own government pulling it on us.
Consider another area of life. Far, far more people are killed each year when people carelessly drive their automobiles, but do we attempt to limit the sale of automobiles?
What this nation needs is repentance. What it needs is a major turning to God in obedience. When God sees the repentance is serious, the solutions will be given and blessed by Him. That is His promise. In His Word, He has already shown through Israel that He will do this
