sermonette: Recognizing Our Obligation

Given 14-Oct-19; 18 minutes

Description: (hide)

How different would our lives be if God had not called us? God's intervention in our lives improved their quality exponentially. Everything changed when God's Spirit started working in us. If we paraphrase Deuteronomy 7:11 using first person pronouns, we understand that God expects something from us: "I am a holy person, a special treasure, being chosen not for my own attributes, but because God loved me, paying the highest price in the universe (the sacrifice of His Son), I have an obligation to react." He expects something from us—namely that we keep His Commandments and follow the cue of the David, who admits he is a lowly servant, owing his life to God. Peter instructs us to arm ourselves with a sacrificial mind, showing fervent love for one another, ministering to one another, that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. Our Holy Day offering are really only a token of the immense gratitude we have to God for calling us.
