Matthew 10:29-31 and Luke 12:24 assure Christ's disciples that nothing escapes the attention of Almighty God, including the flight patterns of the lowly sparrows who weigh less than an ounce, not having the most dazzling plumage, having no ability to sing, and having vulnerability to birds of prey, yet not a single one is forgotten by God. God notices even when a sparrow "lights upon the ground". Furthermore, Jesus assures us that even the strands of the hair on our scalp have been numbered. In one sense, we are the sparrows whom God has specifically called—the foolish, the base, and the despised of the world (I Corinthians 1:27-29), guaranteeing that no flesh should ever glory in His presence. Consequently, in these turbulent times, we need to be more concerned that we acknowledge Him than those around us. The sparrow will never know that God watches over it, but we can treasure God's awareness of us, realizing we are more valuable to Him than the many sparrows which never escape His attention.
