Isaiah 28:10 has set forth a pattern that Almighty God incorporates in educating His called-out ones, namely precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little, indicating that in the sanctification process, building godly character, God expects that we learn to crawl before we walk, and walk before we run. The heptadic patterns running through the weekly and annual Sabbaths, the multiple patterns of seven running through both the Hebrew Old Testament and the Greek New Testament, indicates that our Lord is a God of precision and order. Romans 1:20 challenges the agnostic to look at design throughout nature and the galaxies to understand the deep wisdom of Our Creator. Peter has given us an incremental set of building blocks in II Peter:1-5, describing God's willful direction for mankind, moving from easier to harder steps—eight bricks-beginning with faith, adding incrementally virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness brotherly kindness, and agape love. Each rung on the ladder gets progressively harder and cannot be attained unless the step immediately before it is thoroughly mastered. In this basic-to-complex pattern, we are advised if we get wobbly on any step to go back and establish sure footing before proceeding to the next rung. Even though God has given us everything we need to succeed now, we must diligently practice these eight steps incrementally until they have become our first nature.
