Seemingly useless lateral moves on the part of automotive and computer engineers have provided never ending frustrations which try people's patience. As we prepare for the upcoming Feast of Tabernacles, we have opportunities to respond to tests upon our patience as we attempt to make progress in practicing the fruits of the spirit. Both makrothumia and hupomone seem in short supply as we enter trials and tests. It is not what we suffer, but how we act under that suffering which indicates whether we have passed or failed the test. Human suffering falls into three categories: 1.) natural disasters, 2.) disease, and 3.) interacting with other humans, afflictions which Job endured without blaming God, including the loss of his offspring, a nagging wife, and annoying 'friends' accusing him of unrepented sin. Job endured his lengthy trial heroically, patiently waiting for God's solution, even praying for his clueless companions who had tormented him ceaselessly. As we prepare for the Feast of Tabernacles, chances are that there will be things that test our patience and even a few more will crop up when we get there. Will we be patient in longsuffering, enduring until the end, enabling us, like Job, to see Our Lord and Heavenly Father as they are?
