description: (hide) In metallurgy, heat treatment makes metal more ductile and pliable, ready for ornamental or commercial use. The apostle Peter compares trials and tests to the refinement of gold (I Peter 1:6). When our forebears on the Sinai were exposed to God's powerful, thunderous voice, they recoiled in terror, realizing they deserved being consumed because of their lawlessness. Our job, as God's metaphorical metal, is to endure the trials of heat treatments. God knows what characteristics He wants in us. After metal has endured its prescribed heat treatment, it glows brightly, reflecting the presence of God (Exodus 24: 39) as the Lamb's wife. We should reflect His luminescence.
