description: (hide) Very little detail is given about the Eighth Day in Leviticus 23 except that is has been called a "sacred assembly" in addition to a "holy convocation," applied only to two of the seven holy says, namely the last Day of Unleavened Bread and following the seven days of the Feast of Tabernacles. These assemblies require a greater degree of solemnity and a greater sense of restraint, with an intent of helping people reflect on what they had experienced to make the right connections and glean the right lessons as they returned home. The Eighth Day is the last annual holy day until we get back to the spring to start the sacred year over. The number 8 in scripture refers to new beginnings. Sadly, our forebears allowed the sacredness and solemnity of these assemblies to slip through their fingers, as the turned something sacred into profane, giving lips service rather than heart service. As God's chosen saints, we must not emulate our forebears in polluting or profaning these sacred assemblies.
