The Third Tithe Blessing
Sermon by David C. GrabbeThe third tithe instructions conclude with a declaration spoken before the Lord in which the individual affirms faithful discharge of the tithe and all related commands, then petitions God to look down from heaven and bless His people Israel together with the land He swore to the fathers. The wording of the request makes plain that the blessing sought is national rather than merely personal. Although each person bears individual responsibility and must testify to personal obedience, the blessing itself is asked upon the entire nation when its members keep the ordinance. Both the timing of the third tithe and the blessing that follows are therefore national in scope, linking the tithe to the year of release and to every other law that protects the vulnerable within the community. Under the New Covenant the same principle applies to the spiritual nation. The request for blessing is still made on behalf of the whole people rather than for isolated individuals, yet the greater promises of the New Covenant direct attention to spiritual realities. Those who complete the third tithe year are therefore encouraged to ask that God heal the present scattering, restore oneness among His people, and grant the spiritual discernment and repentance needed for the nation to walk in alignment with Him.
America at 250
'WorldWatch' by Richard T. RitenbaughThe United States has attained remarkable national blessings as a relatively young nation whose restless, pioneering people received from the Founding Fathers governing ideals that fostered free thought, innovation, and rapid progress. A vast and resource-rich land enabled the building of an economy from the ground up, free from excessive regulation or tradition in earlier periods, which transformed natural wealth into broad prosperity through bold enterprise. This foundation produced international business powerhouses that established unmatched agricultural, transportation, and communications systems, while generating tax revenues sufficient to create superior armed forces, global bases, naval dominance, and a nuclear deterrent that secured unmatched political reach and influence. America's culture and consumption further amplified these blessings by shaping worldwide patterns and sustaining a global economic engine. Yet these national advantages rest on freedoms that demand moral constraints willingly supplied by a people trained in righteousness, without which the same liberties expose a putrid underbelly of division, bankruptcy, and immorality. As Christian morality has diluted, citizens have increasingly done what was right in their own eyes, eroding unity and strength in a manner parallel to ancient Israel's forsaking of the Lord, provoking His anger, and accumulating iniquity until the whole head and heart became sick with unhealed wounds. The prophets record that such national corruption seals a trajectory toward desolation of cities and land unless individuals repent by washing themselves clean, ceasing evil, learning to do good, seeking justice, and obeying God, who promises that the willing shall eat the good of the land while the rebellious face the sword. National blessings therefore endure only through sustained internal virtue that begins in personal return to divine standards and can spread to preserve the nation from decline.
If You Do Not Obey My Voice
Commentary by Martin G. CollinsGod's blessings on the nation flow directly from His covenant promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, whose descendants form the modern Israelitish peoples. These blessings have produced the highest levels of material prosperity and quality of life, as reflected in the Legatum Institute's prosperity index, where Norway, Denmark, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Canada, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and the United States occupy the top ten positions. Although policies from earlier decades contributed to infrastructure, education, and innovation, the underlying cause remains God's benevolent hand upon His people, which has continued even while the nations have taken these gifts for granted and turned away from His commandments. As the blessings are exhausted through disobedience, the same nations now experience measurable decline in education rankings, infrastructure quality, health indicators, and mounting debt. This reversal fulfills the pattern described in Deuteronomy 28, where failure to obey the voice of the Lord brings curses that overtake the people, including subjection to foreigners, loss of leadership, and eventual bondage. The progression through ten historical stages—from spiritual faith and liberty to abundance, selfishness, complacency, moral decay, and finally dependency and bondage—illustrates how Israelitish nations have moved from reverence for their Creator to the pursuit of material excess and foreign practices. Repentance and diligent obedience to God's commandments restore the promised blessings, placing the nation above all others, opening His good treasure, and ensuring that it remains the head rather than the tail. This national solution applies equally to individuals and families who submit to Him, providing the sole means of safety from the curses now overtaking the descendants of ancient Israel.
Thanksgiving
Sermonette by Ryan McClureWe cannot emulate the nine ungrateful lepers, but must be proactive in our expressions of thanksgiving, such as making lists of things for which we are thankful.

When is the Third Tithe Year?
Sermonette by David C. GrabbeIn Israel, the third tithe was practiced as a community, drawing people together in a common experience. This is possible for the church, too.
The Certainty of God's Promises

Hosea's Prophecy (Part One)

Be Thankful!
Sermon by John O. ReidThe danger of abundant blessings is that we tend to forget the source of the blessings and cease being thankful. When we forget to be thankful, we forget God.
