Crisis? What Crisis?
CGG Weekly by Richard T. RitenbaughThe church of God has been speaking about the crisis at the close for many decades, often using this phrase as a synonym for the prelude to significant turmoil. Drawing from historical cycles, studies suggest that major crises occur among English-speaking peoples every 80-100 years, once in every four generations. Since the last Crisis took place during the Depression and World War II, we are on the verge of another in just a few short years. Yet, there is a question of whether we would recognize such a crisis when it arrives. Many fail to realize they lived through a significant conflict known as the Cold War, which, despite lacking direct battlefield confrontations, kept nations on a war footing for about 45 years with the constant threat of mutual destruction. As we approach the coming Crisis, it is vital to step back and examine the broader picture of world affairs to regain our bearings and move toward our ultimate goal.
