description: (hide) The disastrous collision of the container ship Dali with the Francis Scott Key Bridge which closed the Port of Baltimore has turned out to be both a state and global disaster, and will require two billion dollars and four years or more to repair. Because of an unexpected malfunction, the captain lost control of his vessel, allowing the ocean current and the ship's momentum to carry it into the bridge support. When determining whether this disaster was a preventable disaster or a freak accident, the truth was that everyone was likely too casual about the entire safety and fail-safe protocols and crash/damage prevention. God's saints have a similar challenge to account for in their spiritual journey when they are too casual or routine in their self-examination. 'Righteous' Lot, burdened with an excessive load of carnality picked up from exposure to Sodom, was not prepared for the disaster which was soon to befall his family. He had squandered his time, underestimating the dangers and the time and effort required to prepare for his end, wishing God would have given him more time. Like Lot, many of us who are living in a venue like Sodom are rapidly running out of time to take corrective action. All of us are subject to inertia and momentum, resisting any needed change. The momentum of sin is dangerous—hard to identify or quantify—especially when the consequences appear to be far away. We must resist the deadly pulls of carnality and sin drawing us toward eternal death and rapidly return to the guidance and protection of Jesus Christ while we still have the time.
