Prepare to Meet Your God! (Part Eight): Seek Me and Live!

Article by John W. Ritenbaugh and Richard T. Ritenbaugh

God's grace and obedience are intertwined in the journey of His people. He extends mercy to a remnant of Israel, sparing them from total destruction despite their broken covenant, as He declares, "Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are on the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from the face of the earth; yet I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob" (Amos 9:8). This act of grace is not to be taken for granted, for it comes with the responsibility to seek Him daily and live by His commands. Obedience is the pathway to receiving God's Spirit and maintaining the privileged position He offers. As it is written, God gives His Spirit to those who obey Him, requiring action before the blessing is bestowed. One must step out in faith, trusting that obedience to His Word will bring the strength to continue and grow in grace. The command is clear: "Seek good and not evil, that you may live; so the LORD God of hosts will be with you" (Amos 5:14). This seeking is an imperative act of turning to God in repentance, setting aside time and life for Him, and pursuing holiness through both action and emotion. Grace and obedience work together; they cannot be separated. God calls and redeems by grace through faith, yet He requires obedience through faith, living by His every Word. By living righteously and seeking Him, He grants more of His Spirit to help overcome sin and grow in the knowledge of God. True security and abundant life flow from Him when His people align with His priorities, seeking first His kingdom and righteousness.
