Jesus Christ's Ascension
Sermon by David C. GrabbeThe ascension of Jesus Christ was visible to the apostles, and the two angels testified that His return will be in the same manner. All the references to Christ's return speak of His return being very visible. It will not be done in secret. Jesus Christ warns in the Olivet Prophecy that there will be attempts to deceive people into believing that He had secretly returned. The warning is given ahead of time that His return, just like His ascension, will not be secret. Jesus Christ will not be popping down to earth and back up. He will simply remain with the Father until He returns visibly and with clouds. He will appear a second time.
Christ's Second Coming
Sermon by Richard T. RitenbaughThe return of Jesus Christ is a pivotal event in the history of the universe, marking the great dividing line in all of history. He will come back as King of Kings and Lord of Lords to reestablish God's rule on the earth. This return is not a hidden or secret event, as some might suggest. As described in Matthew 24:27, His coming will be like lightning flashing from the east to the west, noticeable to all, signifying that a new day has dawned. Every eye shall see Him, openly and undeniably, as He returns with power and great glory on the clouds of heaven. This momentous occasion, tied to the Day of Trumpets, signifies both judgment and salvation. To the enemies of God, it heralds violent and tragic judgment, the end of human plans against Him. As depicted in Matthew 24:29-31, immediately after the tribulation, heavenly signs will appear, the sun will darken, the moon will cease to give light, and the stars will fall. All tribes of the earth will mourn as they witness the Son of Man coming, and He will send His angels with the great sound of a trumpet to gather His elect from the four winds. Revelation 11:15-19 further announces this return with the sounding of the seventh trumpet, proclaiming that the kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever. Despite the ensuing wrath and judgment, including lightnings, noises, thunderings, an earthquake, and great hail, this trumpet blast heralds the beginning of His reign. Revelation 19:11-21 portrays Him as the Righteous Judge and Warrior King, riding a white horse, making war in righteousness, and striking the nations with a sharp sword from His mouth, ultimately ruling them with a rod of iron. The return of Christ also brings the gathering and transformation of His saints. As promised in John 14:1-3, He will come again to receive His followers to Himself, preparing a place for them to abide with Him forever. I Corinthians 15:50-53 and I Thessalonians 4:13-18 detail this transformation, where at the last trumpet, the dead in Christ will rise incorruptible, and those alive will be changed in a moment, meeting the Lord in the air to be with Him always. This is not a secret rapture but a glorious resurrection, a time of ultimate salvation and glorification for His people. Thus, the Day of Trumpets encapsulates both the day of vengeance and a time of comfort, consolation, beauty, joy, and praise, depending on one's standing before God. As Isaiah 40:9-11 urges, we are to proclaim with strength, "Behold your God!" for the Lord God shall come with a strong hand, His reward with Him, to judge, rule, and shepherd His flock.
The Appointed Time of the Resurrection

The Rapture and Trumpets
Sermon by Richard T. RitenbaughThe delusion of the pre-Tribulation 'rapture' concept, made popular by the Left Behind books and movies, hopelessly messes up the timing of Bible prophecy.
