Jesus Christ's Trial (Part Two)
Sermon by Martin G. CollinsJesus Christ as Forerunner stands as a profound fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy, embodying the role of the Messiah whose coming was to be heralded by a forerunner. According to the scriptures, the appearance of the Messiah was to be preceded by a figure like Elijah, not Elijah himself, but one in his spirit and power. John the Baptist fulfilled this role, and Jesus Himself identified John as this forerunner, confirming the prophetic alignment. This connection underscores the divine orchestration of events leading to Jesus' ministry, affirming His messianic identity through the presence and testimony of His forerunner.
Approaching God Through Christ (Part Seven)
Sermon by Richard T. RitenbaughJesus Christ is the Trailblazer, the sole means to reach the treasure of a relationship with God the Father. As the Way, the Truth, and the Life, He embodies the path, the knowledge, and the eternal life necessary for approaching God. He forged the way through His life, death, and resurrection, providing the only method to attain the ultimate destination, the Kingdom of God. Jesus Christ, as the Way, exemplifies the behavior and direction of life that must be followed. His path emphasizes how to live, ensuring that by walking in His footsteps, one reaches the same eternal destination He achieved. As the Truth, He reveals the reality of God's will, embodying timeless teachings that guide toward the Kingdom. As the Life, He is the Life-giver, holding inherent life and the power to impart eternal life through His resurrection, ensuring that those who follow Him also gain immortality. Throughout the symbolism of the tabernacle, Jesus Christ is portrayed as the central figure in approaching God. At the brazen altar, He is the sacrifice for sin, paying the ultimate price to provide pardon and open the way to God's presence. At the bronze laver, He cleanses continuously through His Word, purifying through the sanctification process to present His followers as holy before God. As the door, He provides access, protection, separation from the world, and freedom within His boundaries to live abundantly. At the table of showbread, He is the bread of life, representing the covenant accepted through partaking of His body and blood. As the menorah, He is the light of the world, illuminating the path with His instruction and example to avoid darkness. At the altar of incense, He is the Mediator and Advocate, interceding with prayers before God, understanding human struggles as a compassionate High Priest. In every step, Jesus Christ is essential, guiding, cleansing, illuminating, and advocating, ensuring a relationship with the Father is possible only through Him.
Preparations For Christ's Return
Sermon by Richard T. RitenbaughJesus Christ stands as the ultimate Forerunner, paving the way for humanity through His profound interventions. At His first coming, He arrived as a purifier and refiner, working to cleanse and prepare those whom God called. God Himself orchestrated the political, cultural, and religious conditions, ensuring everything was ready for His Son to preach the gospel and deliver His message effectively. Additionally, He prepared Joseph and Mary to raise Jesus Christ into the Man He became, aligning all factors for His mission. In contrast, at His second coming, Jesus Christ will return as King and Judge, with an impact far greater than His initial arrival. His intervention will be catastrophic and transformative, tearing down and rebuilding as He raises the low places, brings down the high, straightens the crooked, and smooths the rough. This monumental event will require immense power and wisdom, turning humanity on its ear. A war-weary, plagued, and famine-devastated world will be thoroughly prepared to receive Him, many brought to their knees, ready to hear their Creator's message. God, as a planning and preparing Sovereign, ensures all pieces are in place for His Son's return. Just as He meticulously prepared for the first coming, He continues to work now, guiding events and softening humanity through trials and tribulations, as seen in the prophetic sequences of trumpets and plagues. These macro-preparations, visible to all, serve as direct witnesses of His wrath and the imminent arrival of Jesus Christ, ensuring that even the unconverted recognize the significance of these events. On a personal level, God prepares His chosen people, the vessels of mercy, for glory, guiding them toward the Kingdom of God. He clears the path, tests as needed, and ensures their readiness for the resurrection into His Family. As the Good Shepherd, He guarantees that His sheep will be with Him at His grand arrival on the Mount of Olives, bringing His reward to those prepared to receive it. Jesus Christ, as the prototype, sets the standard for character, and God works to shape His people to reflect Him perfectly, completing every project He begins with precision and care.
