Parable of the Two Builders
Bible Study by Martin G. CollinsStability is found through building one's life on the rock of genuine subjection to God by hearing and obeying the sayings of Jesus Christ. This rock foundation represents true understanding and right action, true conviction and commitment manifested in righteousness. Obedience and dedication to a personal relationship with Christ the Rock provide emotional and spiritual stability. Without this, purposes rest on shifting sand, leading to destruction when trials come. The house built on sand, representing empty preference and mere external religion based on false knowledge, lacks stability and falls greatly when floods and winds test it. In contrast, the house on the rock withstands these tests due to its solid foundation. The comparative stability of the two houses differs greatly even when materials and labor appear similar.
Dealing With Change (Part One)
CGG Weekly by David C. GrabbeStability is highlighted through the symbol of a rock, which represents Jesus Christ. The rock withstands the ravages of time and the violence of the flood. It is immovable and unshakable despite what is thrown at it. Regardless of the fray, this rock does not budge. It is a reliable foundation, one that is solid and sure. It never changes; it remains constant and dependable. We can take refuge on it because it can withstand the evil of the day when we are not able. Access to the unshakable foundation comes to those who hear and do the sayings of Jesus Christ. Acting on faith ensures our foundation.
