In Galatians 3:23-24, Paul explains the role of the law as a guardian, stating that before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, preserved for the faith that would later be revealed. Therefore, the law served as our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. This guardianship was God's way of protecting Israel from the sinful, pagan cultures surrounding them until the arrival of Christ. In Galatians 3:25-27, Paul clarifies that after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor, for we are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. With Christ's coming, the Old Covenant rules that isolated Israel from other nations are no longer necessary, as the church now unites all races and nationalities under the spiritual laws magnified by Him.

The law serves as a schoolmaster that brings people to Christ. If the law were abolished then the schoolmaster that brings people to Christ would be taken away. The law was not abolished or changed. The law defines sin and tells what it is. The law shows serious deviations from the way of righteousness and how far short people come of God's glory. The law is sent in order to show that people cannot be saved by works and to shut them up to be saved by grace. The law is fulfilled in Christ and by faith people receive the fruit of it and are able to fulfill it. The aim or end of the law is to enable people to become like Christ. Regeneration is a work by which the law is fulfilled. When a person is born from above a new nature is placed in him which loves the law of God and is perfectly conformed to it. The law will admit no one into God's kingdom until he is perfectly conformed to it. Every believer will be in that perfect condition at his resurrection to eternal life.
