Balls and Strikes

CGG Weekly by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

In America, the moral standard has vanished, much like a disappearing home plate and catcher. Our actions are judged without a consistent guide, and the arbiter of right and wrong decides capriciously, leaving no basis for effective disagreement. Each individual now determines their own sense of right and wrong, regardless of their perspective or background. Society often permits this as long as no harm is done, but when harm occurs, the response is inadequate, merely temporarily removing the offender without resolving the deeper issue. History shows the failure of such a system, as seen in ancient Israel when everyone did what was right in their own eyes, leading to cultural decline without a common standard to guide beliefs and decisions. The time to demand a return to a shared moral foundation is overdue, and delay may cost the opportunity to act before facing greater consequences.
