Some Thoughts on Healing
CGG Weekly by Richard T. RitenbaughDivine healing, though often viewed skeptically in modern times, remains a profound aspect of faith for many. God desires to heal us and has promised to do so, yet these promises are not unconditional. As a loving Father, He would like to heal every time, but sometimes it is better that He does not. Three overriding factors—His sovereignty, His love, and His purpose—take precedence, and He considers these when contemplating our petitions for healing. The ultimate decision rests on what is best for the individual, even if that decision is physical death. We must trust that His care is absolutely loving and that death is only a temporary rest before a vibrant life in His Kingdom. As mature believers, we must strive to understand healing more perfectly, accepting both good and adversity from God with the same faith, knowing that though He may cause grief, He will also show compassion according to the multitude of His mercies.
The Miracles of Jesus Christ: Ten Lepers Healed
Bible Study by Martin G. CollinsIn the account of Jesus healing the ten lepers, certain conditions were necessary for their healing to occur. Christ responded to their plea with a command to go and show themselves to the priests. As they went, in obedience to His instruction, they were cleansed. This demonstrates that blessings, such as healing, are contingent upon obedience. When they obeyed, two significant blessings followed: they were cleansed of their leprosy, and by presenting themselves to the priests as commanded, their social restrictions were lifted, granting them freedom to reunite with family, work, and associate freely. Additionally, one leper, upon seeing that he was healed, returned to glorify God with a loud voice and fell at His feet in thanks. Christ informed him that his faith had made him whole, indicating that his faith not only led him to seek healing but also brought him back to praise and thank God, resulting in further spiritual blessing. Obedience and faith, therefore, were essential conditions for both physical cleansing and deeper spiritual restoration.
God Heals Today
Sermonette by Richard T. RitenbaughGod heals, and He is a healer, as affirmed in Scripture. In Exodus 15:26, God declares that if His people diligently heed His voice, do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, He will put none of the diseases upon them that were brought on the Egyptians, for He is the Lord who heals. This establishes that healing is conditional, linked to living a godly life and maintaining an active relationship with Him. In Psalm 103:1-5, David proclaims that God forgives all iniquities and heals all diseases, presenting these as parallel benefits within the same package of blessings God desires to give His people. This reflects the trust and covenant relationship God seeks, where forgiveness initiates access to healing and other benefits. Isaiah 53:4-6 and I Peter 2:24 further connect Christ's bearing of sins with healing by His stripes, showing that both spiritual and physical healing are made possible through His sacrifice. Peter personalizes this, indicating that healing is accessible through faith in Christ, as His work has already been accomplished. In Matthew 9:20-22 and 27-29, Jesus emphasizes the role of faith in healing, telling a woman with a flow of blood that her faith made her well, and to two blind men that healing would be according to their faith. These instances demonstrate that faith is essential for receiving healing. Psalm 146:1-10 reinforces that true help and healing come from God alone, not from human sources. It highlights that while we must believe He can heal, the determination of healing rests on His will, and we must trust His decisions, saying as Jesus did, "Not my will, but Yours be done." Our faith must be in God Himself, the Creator and Deliverer, not merely in the hope of healing.
