The Bible speaks of a significant time known as the Day of the Lord, also referred to as the Lord's Day or the Day of Jesus Christ. This period marks when Jesus Christ, the Son of God, initiates the final sequence of events in human affairs, focusing the world's attention on Him and His work. It is His day, a time that apparently begins one year before He touches down on the Mount of Olives and continues until the end of the Millennium, His 1,000-year reign on the earth. During this Day of Christ, the purpose is to bring all humanity and creation into subjection to Him, ultimately leading every knee to bow to His name. This day persists until He turns over the reins of His Kingdom to the Father, after all enemies are subdued, ensuring a universe cleansed of sin and ready for the Father's presence.

The Day of the Lord is the year-long period of gloom and darkness culminating in Christ's return (the Parousia) on the Mount of Olives, and it is marked by clouds. Zephaniah, Joel, and Ezekiel describe it as a day of clouds and thick darkness, and Christ ascended in a cloud and will return in the same way, as Matthew 24:30 and Revelation 1:7 confirm. Luke 17 compares "His day" to the days of Noah, and Psalm 29:10 shows God enthroned over the Flood. As He presided over the Flood for the better part of a year, destroying a corrupt civilization while reshaping the earth, so Christ will spend about a year in His cloud. He will judge His enemies, avenge His saints, and level mountains and raise valleys, destroying and creating almost simultaneously. He will remove all corruption from the earth, and with precise selectivity He will shelter those He has chosen, as He remembered Noah in the ark (Isaiah 4:3-6). The darkness of that year contrasts with the brilliance of His revealing as the Dayspring, which will end the darkness suddenly, like lightning. Humanity's day will end in agony, and God's thousand-year day will begin. Scriptures such as Zechariah 14 and Joel 3 show darkness and violence giving way swiftly to light, peace, and restoration.
