Conviction to Godly Righteousness
Sermon by John W. RitenbaughThe Spirit of God convicts us of righteousness as a vital aspect of spiritual transformation. This conviction encompasses two distinct dimensions. First, there is a judicial righteousness, where upon repentance and coming under the blood of Jesus Christ, God, by divine edict, wipes the slate clean and imputes the righteousness of Christ to the individual. This is not based on personal merit but on God's grace and the believer's faith in Christ as Savior, justifying the person to draw near to God and pursue perfection. Second, this righteousness becomes real through the experience of obedience, as one strives to maintain it by adhering to God's way of living. This requires a deep conviction of the vision of where life is leading and the purpose behind these efforts, understanding that the Kingdom of God lies ahead and the goal is to be in the image of God. Such conviction of righteousness fuels the obligation to Christ, driving the necessity to sacrifice and follow His path. Alongside sin and judgment, righteousness forms a crucial part of the transformative conviction brought by the Holy Spirit, motivating a psychological and emotional commitment to align with God's way.
