Grieving the Holy Spirit
Sermon by Richard T. RitenbaughThe Holy Spirit serves as a seal for God's children, marking them as His own. In Ephesians 4:30, Paul reminds us that we are sealed by the Holy Spirit for the day of redemption, indicating a continuous state of being set apart throughout our Christian lives. This sealing is not merely a one-time act but an ongoing process that identifies us as belonging to God, validating our origin and ownership. It acts as a guarantee of our inheritance, a pledge from God that He will do all in His power to bring us to His Kingdom. As a seal, the Holy Spirit also aids us in fulfilling our spiritual growth, helping us reach the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. We must be careful not to grieve this Holy Spirit, for it remains with us until we are redeemed, and any action that sullies this bond endangers our relationship with God. The seal of the Holy Spirit is a mark recognized by God, by others, and even by demons, signifying that we are His and showing the source of our beliefs and the direction of our journey.
