Leadership and Covenants (Part Seven)

'Personal' from John W. Ritenbaugh

The Adamic Covenant, as reflected in the narrative of humanity's beginnings, underscores the profound consequences of sin that originated with Adam and Eve. Their transgressions introduced curses that continue to affect life to this day, impacting every person born since that time. God, in His mercy, dealt with them compassionately when He could have imposed harsher judgment, revealing His desire to spare humanity from the destructions of sin, which turn the heart toward evil. Despite their close relationship with Him, Adam and Eve chose to sin, not under coercion from satan, but through their own decisions—Eve by believing satan's reasoning, and Adam by following her without deception or force. Their attempts at self-justification compounded their sin, as they shifted blame, with Adam even indirectly faulting God for giving him Eve, displaying ingratitude for His gifts. This pattern of denying responsibility and blaming circumstances began with them and persists, yet God teaches that circumstances do not excuse sin; it remains our duty to exercise faith and align with His righteousness. The hope granted through God's merciful calling offers the promise that these curses will begin to be lifted upon the return of our Savior, urging us to persevere amidst ongoing effects.
