Everlasting Light

Feast of Tabernacles Sermon by Martin G. Collins

Light serves as a profound guide in both the physical and spiritual realms, illuminating the path to truth and understanding. God, as the sole source of everlasting light, provides this guidance to humanity, enabling minds to rise above mere instinct and to reason and create with extraordinary capacity. This divine illumination, promised to Abraham and reflected in the ingenuity of Israel's descendants, has shaped the advancements of civilization through inventions and knowledge. In the spiritual sense, light represents truth and goodness, standing in stark contrast to the darkness of error and evil. It rules over the universe with a benevolent authority, as seen in the creation of the greater and lesser lights to govern day and night. The absence of light evokes terror and despair, while its presence brings clarity and joy, guiding individuals out of moral and spiritual confusion. Jesus Christ embodies this guiding light, declaring Himself the light of the world, offering understanding and salvation to all who follow Him. Those who embrace His light are called out of darkness into a marvelous illumination, becoming bearers of truth in a world often shrouded in deceit. As guides, they reflect God's glory, shining as true lights to reveal His way of life. Ultimately, the light of God promises to obliterate all darkness in the vision of the New Jerusalem, where His presence will be the everlasting illumination. There, with no need for sun or moon, the glory of God and the Lamb will guide the redeemed in eternal truth, purity, and joy, fulfilling the purpose of light to reveal and glorify Him forever.

Be a Lighthouse

Sermon by Ted E. Bowling

Lighthouses stand as towering guardians along the coastlines, shining their beacons continuously through the darkness of night. Located on rocky points, islands, inlets, and harbors near dangerous underwater reefs, they guide captains and their ships safely through perilous waters. Their bright lights warn of impending dangers and provide direction, offering hope especially in the darkest hours. Just as these beacons pierce through the obscurity of night, God's light shines through the darkness of this world, bringing guidance and comfort. Jesus Christ, embodying this light, separates light from darkness, offering hope and life to those who follow Him. He declared Himself the light of the world, promising that those who follow Him shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life. This light is precious, penetrating the darkness and providing direction where there is confusion and fear. As lighthouses are built on solid bedrock or secured with deep screw piles to withstand harsh conditions, so must our foundation be built on Jesus Christ, the rock on which we stand. This strong base ensures stability over time, no matter the challenges faced. We are called to be lighthouses in this world, shining forth before others, emitting the light of Jesus Christ through the fruits of love, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Our light, though not as bright as His, is meant to serve and guide others, reflecting His character in a tired and confused world. Being a lighthouse means providing a good example to all we meet, showing a difference in how we act, speak, and treat others. Our words, deeds, and attitudes should be a beacon of God's character, glorifying Him through our service. Whether through simple acts like holding a door open or showing respect to the weak and elderly, our light shines brightest in the smallest gestures. We are to be beacons to each other, supporting and helping one another, always looking for opportunities to let our light shine before others. God expects every one of us to fulfill this purpose, standing as lighthouses built on a foundation of His Spirit, showing lovingkindness and tenderness to all.
