Quarantine of A Global Killer!
Commentary by Martin G. CollinsMedia reports have intensified coverage of contagious diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, avian flu, Ebola, and others, presenting them as imminent global threats that could become killers if God permits human actions to reach their worst. Health authorities acknowledge that existing vaccines, antibiotics, and drugs offer no defense against these emerging pandemics. Governments respond with preparations including mandatory quarantines that extend even to healthy individuals without symptoms, supported by statutes such as Section 361 of the Public Health Service Act, which authorizes measures to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention distinguish isolation, which separates those already ill, from quarantine, which restricts well persons who may have been exposed, with both enforced through detainment facilities and backed by law. Such powers, expanded through measures like the Model State Emergency Health Powers Act and executive orders, enable authorities to compel examinations, vaccinations, reporting of health data, property control, and militia mobilization during declared emergencies. The material links these developments to humanity's ongoing sin and dense urban living, which leave populations vulnerable to laboratory errors, bioweapons, or viral mutations. In contrast, the Old Testament portrays illness as arising from external forces sometimes permitted by God, as seen in the sufferings of Job, while Paul identifies his thorn in the flesh as a messenger of Satan. Believers nevertheless hold assurance through God's powerful Holy Spirit of love, truth, and strength, which remains unshakable and confirms that no disease can affect them unless He allows it.
