The Psalmist David assures us that the LORD is on His throne in Heaven, beholding and testing the sons of men (Psalm 11:4), the location before which God's resurrected saints will occupy on the Sea of Glass, the venue which the martyr Stephen witnessed as he was stoned. In Ezekiel 1:3-4, we see another glimpse of God's throne as the Seraphim provide instantaneous transportation through the heavens. In Exodus 19:16-23, we experience a foretaste of the power (thundering and lightnings). As future stewards of the Kingdom, we need to be cleansed and sanctified. God's splendor is beyond human description, with brief fleeting pictures on Revelation 4:1-3 describing an emerald rainbow, green and brilliant in color, accompanied by Jasper red quartz, where 24 elders encircle the throne area. As the seven lamps (symbolic of the seven spirits of the churches) are described, lightning and thunder accompany their presence. The Seraphim, depicted as animals, reveal characteristics of Jesus Christ (a lion, depicting rulership, a bullock, depicting strength, a man, depicting intelligence, an eagle, depicting protective care), revealing that there is no reason the universe exists except for the wisdom of God. The 24 Elders who fell on their faces represent resurrected saints from the 12 tribes of Jacob. On this dazzlingly beautiful sea of glass, God's chosen, called-out, and resurrected saints will receive a new name and identity.
