commentary: A Problem With No Present Solution
John W. Ritenbaugh
Given 22-Dec-12; Sermon #1135c; 10 minutes
John Ritenbaugh, reflecting on news reports of the tragic mass slaying in Connecticut in mid-December 2012, motivating the liberal Democrat politicians to call for gun control, observes that throughout the 'civilized world,' ironically, where the gun control laws are the strictest, the more vulnerable the innocent populace becomes. Mass murder is not confined to the United States. The assault rifle was not used in the recent Connecticut shooting. Liberal politicians (those who systematically expunge God from our culture) hypocritically ask, "Where was God?" or "Why didn't God stop this mayhem?" Dodge City, in the 1870s, was the murder capital of the United States. Gun control was attempted, but rejected in 1880 when it was discovered that the evil doers had the upper hand if the populace could not defend itself. Legendary lawmen such as Bat Masterson and Wyatt Earp were able to bring the violence under control only when the average citizen was allowed to carry a firearm and the outlaws could expect faster retaliation. The only real deterrent to murder is the fear of God. The leftist liberal solution of 'gun control' cannot change the heart.
