This spirit of antichrist has been active since the apostles and manifests in individuals, institutions, religions, and governments that oppose the Father and the Son by works, traditions of men, and false teachings such as Gnostic denials of the incarnation or modern syncretism that replaces the necessity of Christ's return with human solutions. The same deceptive power produces the ultimate False Prophet, who performs lying wonders to draw worship to the Beast and proclaims himself in the place of Christ, while the broader antichrist mentality permeates society through conspiracy, lawlessness, and rejection of God's law. These counterfeits distract from the many antichrists already present and prepare the world to mistake Christ's return for the work of an antichrist. God permits such testing to refine the righteous, who overcome by the indwelling Holy Spirit that discerns truth from error and enables steadfast obedience. Faithfulness to the true Christ, rather than speculation about future figures, protects against every counterfeit and preserves the crown promised to those who endure.
