Before the return of the Son of Man, chaotic times will be accompanied by dramatic signs in the heavens, while on earth distress of nations will be symbolized by roaring waves, swelling, and bursting forth with force, dramatizing a perplexing chaotic world with a crescendo of never-ending problems. The roaring waves (Jude 11:12-13; Jeremiah 51:55; Psalm 46:1-2) symbolize the horrendous stress and upheaval increasing exponentially at the close of the age, from which God's called-out ones can take refuge in the Lord. As the great alliance of satanic darkness marches toward us, we cannot trust any human government to save us, but we must compulsively look up when these fearful things begin to happen (Luke 21:28).
