Haggai 1:5-7 cautions us to consider our ways, especially in times of stress when continuous disruptions throw us into confusion and impede physical and spiritual progress. Our Savior, in the Olivet Prophecy, forewarned us about these disruptions at the close of the age inspired by the prince and power of the air. Bible history is a panoply of disruption beginning with God's plan to create a new world order, ousting Satan the devil in favor of mankind. The great Flood, the scattering of language, the rocky lives of our patriarchs, and the birth, life, and crucifixion were a sampling of disruptions. Our Savior warns us that disruptions will follow throughout our lives, some caused by Satan and some by human incompetency and broken health laws all forcing mankind to spend exorbitant premiums on insurance. The average person spends one-third of his income on insurance to maintain a peaceful life. Disruptions are a natural by-product of our carnal human nature, and God Almighty uses the consequences of foolish behavior to provide a jolt. There is no insurance for disruptions from sanctification, but if we submit to these disruptions, altering our behavior and trusting in our Lord, we will grow in faith, character, and perfection (James 1:2-4).
