Moses' Sin at Kadesh
'Prophecy Watch' by Mike FordMoses faced immense frustration when the Israelites, angry and contentious over the lack of water in the Wilderness of Zin, confronted him and Aaron with hostility. Despite their advanced ages, Moses at 120 and Aaron at 123, they encountered a vast, irate multitude of younger Israelites. In response to this near-riot, Moses and Aaron sought sanctuary at the Tabernacle, falling on their faces before God, and the glory of the LORD appeared to them. God spoke directly to Moses, providing clear instructions to speak to a rock to bring forth water. However, in his anger, Moses deviated from God's command, striking the rock twice with his rod and rebuking the people as rebels, questioning if he and Aaron must bring water from the rock themselves. This act of frustration and pride led to severe consequences, as God denied Moses entry into the Promised Land, holding him accountable for failing to honor Him and show Him as holy. Moses, feeling the punishment was harsh, appealed to God, but the LORD firmly rebuked him, refusing to reconsider the verdict. Through this, Moses' anger caused him to sin, revealing his momentary lack of faith and failure to sanctify God before the people.
