Knowledge and Wisdom (Part Two)
CGG Weekly by Mike FordKnowledge, as the possession of information and skills acquired through experience or education, forms the foundation for wisdom, which is the skillful application of what is true or right in life and relationships. God's Word, His law, is to be treasured, hidden, and stored up within us as a most special possession, cherished and valued greatly, much like we guard a precious physical item. Through Solomon, God instructs us to treasure His commands within us, emphasizing that His knowledge is a great wealth and riches that lead to wisdom, surpassing all worldly desires. We must be vigilant in guarding this knowledge, not resting on past efforts, but building upon it each day through diligent application in living this way of life, from which true wisdom emerges.
Knowledge and Wisdom (Part One)
CGG Weekly by Mike FordKnowledge, in its essence, is the accumulation of information, facts, and skills gained through experience or education. The application of knowledge, however, is the critical step toward wisdom, which involves using this information with proper judgment to act rightly. It is the skill of applying common sense and experience at the right time, in the right place, and in the right way. Solomon, in Proverbs 1:1-7, emphasizes that the purpose of his proverbs is to impart wisdom and instruction, to help perceive understanding, and to equip even the simple and the young with knowledge and discretion. A wise person will hear and increase learning, continually seeking understanding and wise counsel. The foundation of this knowledge, which leads to wisdom, begins with the fear of the LORD, as Solomon declares that reverence for Him is the starting point for true understanding. Without this reverence, even the most learned individuals may lack the ability to apply their knowledge in a way that aligns with godly principles, rendering their wisdom incomplete by biblical standards.
