Why Is Christ, the Son, Called 'the Everlasting Father' (Isaiah 9:6)?
Bible Questions & AnswersIsaiah 9:6-7 prophesies about Jesus Christ, stating that He will be called Everlasting Father among other titles. This prophecy indicates that Jesus Christ, as the Son of God, will fulfill the role of Everlasting Father. The God of the Old Testament, identified as Jesus Christ, fulfilled the role of Father to Israel on three bases: He redeemed them from slavery in Egypt, He created them, and He founded them as a nation. In Jeremiah 31:9, Jesus Christ speaks of a future time when He will lead Israel as their Father, establishing a special relationship that will last eternally. Thus, Jesus Christ is the Everlasting Father as prophesied.
