Godly Training and Admonition
Sermon by Richard T. RitenbaughIn the context of childrearing, admonition plays a vital role as a form of verbal guidance and correction. It is about putting in mind, reminding, or warning children of potential faults or dangers in their behavior. Admonition differs from training, which focuses on actions and deeds, as it centers on the words we use to teach, warn, and encourage. It involves recognizing faults in a child's nature and providing wise counsel to correct them, ensuring their character develops soundly. This process requires parents to possess wisdom and understanding to identify issues and offer appropriate guidance. Often, admonition takes the form of sitting down with children to talk, sharing insights and wisdom, whether in formal discussions or casual moments. These verbal interactions are essential to help children grow in maturity. Ultimately, admonition must be of the Lord, infused with a godly spirit, reflecting His teachings and example in every word spoken to guide children toward a righteous path.
