Earth functions as a prison in which God has confined Satan and his demons following their rebellion, with Satan serving as its sadistic jailer who constantly influences mankind through his lying spirit. Humanity remains unaware that this confinement eliminates free will, as a prison is designed precisely to remove the freedom of those held within it. This arrangement places people side by side with demonic forces, forming one of the chief reasons these days prove so dangerous for God's elect, who alone possess the opportunity to exercise free-moral agency through the exposure of deceptions by God's Spirit and the guidance of His Word. The condition traces its roots to the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden, establishing the earth as Satan's domain of delusion and deception. As societies move farther from the truth of God's Word, individuals grow more insistent on claiming free will to reshape everything according to their own self-satisfying designs, causing the world to devolve into a fractionalized and violent quest for a personal perfection that aligns with the perverted thinking of the inmates under Satan's control. This demonic habitation thus sustains the self-centered insanity in which God gradually withdraws His hand, allowing the residents of the asylum to dominate while the elect must resist drifting back into opposition to His plan.

Satan began as a perfect covering cherub on God's throne but fell through pride, greed, and rebellion, drawing a third of the angels with him in an attempt to seize divine authority. God cast the rebels from heaven, binding them to the earth as their habitation while they await final judgment. The former shining one, now known as Satan the Devil, along with his demons, has remained on earth ever since, able to move about only within the limits God permits. From the time of creation, humanity has lived alongside these millions of demonic opponents, a circumstance God incorporated into His plan so that His children would learn to choose righteousness and overcome evil despite constant adversarial pressure. Satan quickly deceived Eve and induced Adam to sin, and he has continued to promote unbelief, fear, hatred, and division among all people. Although he can still accuse, tempt, and deceive, his power is restrained, and he will ultimately be crushed. After Christ's return an angel will seize the Devil, bind him for a thousand years, and seal him in the bottomless pit so that he can no longer deceive the nations. With the adversary removed, the earth will experience genuine peace, the fog of his attitudes will lift, and people will be free to think clearly and pursue righteousness under Christ's rule. This binding constitutes a vital step toward the restoration of all things, opening the way for harmony between God and humanity throughout the Millennium and allowing the firstfruits, who have already overcome Satan in this age, to reign with Christ.

The rebellion of Lucifer and the angels who followed him transformed the originally ordered earth into a chaotic habitation for demons. Created perfect, Lucifer sinned through iniquity and the desire to exalt his throne above the stars of God, leading a third of the angels in revolt before the creation of man. This sin, occurring between the original creation in Genesis 1:1 and the condition described in Genesis 1:2, rendered the earth without form and void, a state of waste and confusion resulting directly from the violation of divine law rather than any human action. The same Hebrew terms for chaos appear elsewhere in Scripture only as consequences of sin, confirming that angelic transgression alone produced the disorder. God then remade the earth for human habitation, yet the fallen angels retained dominion over it. These demons, restricted to earth and reserved in chains of darkness for future judgment, now rule the present world as its god and prince, ruthlessly misleading its inhabitants and seeking to occupy the hearts and minds of those who reject God's sovereignty. Their influence stands in direct opposition to the holy angels, who minister to the elect under divine direction. This demonic rule explains the current subjection of the world to evil powers, a condition that will end when the world to come is placed under the authority of redeemed humanity rather than angels, fulfilling God's purpose to elevate His sons above the fallen spirits who once held sway.
