In the chronology of creation, God, through Jesus Christ, brought the angels into existence before the original formation of the earth, as evidenced by their presence and joy at its foundation. Initially, the earth was created in a state of perfect order, as God is not the author of confusion but of peace and law. However, between the initial creation and the state described as without form and void, a catastrophic change occurred due to sin, not by human hands since man had not yet been created, but by the rebellion of angels. Lucifer, once a perfect archangel, was created with wisdom and beauty, serving as a covering cherub at the throne of God. He was placed as ruler over the angels on earth under the administration of God's government. Yet, iniquity was found in him, leading to his rebellion and the fall of a third of the angels. This sin caused the earth to become chaotic, a condition described by the Hebrew terms tohu and bohu, meaning confusion and waste, as a direct result of violating God's laws. Lucifer, now known as Satan, sought to exalt his throne above the stars of God and to be like the Most High, initiating a rebellion that disrupted the original order of the earth. The fallen angels, under Satan's leadership, were cast down and restrained in chains of darkness, reserved for judgment. They abandoned their proper domain and habitation, becoming the demonic forces that currently hold sway over this present world. Satan, referred to as the god of this world and the prince of the evil realm, leads these fallen entities in ruling and negatively influencing the earth's inhabitants. Their dominion is maintained through deception and conquest, contrasting sharply with the future world to come, which will not be under angelic subjection but under the authority of God's elect. Originally, God intended for angels to play a significant role in the final creation and improvement of the vast physical universe, potentially finishing countless planets and solar systems under His will. However, due to their rebellion, the fallen angels forfeited this purpose, and their current influence is one of disruption and opposition to God's plan, awaiting their ultimate removal and binding after the Messiah's return.
