Bible Questions & AnswersThe commandments of men, as burdensome decrees, were additions by religious leaders to what God revealed in the Old Testament. These human ordinances fostered prejudice, animosity, suspicion, and separation between Jews and Gentiles who were being called into God's church, acting as a middle wall of division. Jesus abolished this barrier through His supreme sacrifice, for He Himself is our peace. Christ did away with these Talmudic traditions, which were yokes of bondage, as necessary for salvation. However, He did not abolish any part of God's law, but made it possible for both Jew and Gentile to become spiritual Israelites, living together in freedom within His perfect law.
