Power Belongs to God (Part One)

'Personal' from John W. Ritenbaugh

God is our Deliverer, the supreme power in all creation, to whom we should turn in times of trouble. From Him comes salvation, as He is our rock, our foundation, and source of stability, keeping us grounded and free from unreasonable anxieties. He is our defense, able to deflect attacks in ways humans cannot provide, and our refuge, an unqualified place of safety in any circumstance. As our glory, we take pride in Him for all that He is, and He can grant us favor even before those who oppose us. Power belongs to God, not merely as a possession, but as something He can use in any situation or distribute as He sees fit. No one can resist Him or nullify His will, for He owns this strength and decides its application. Compared to Him, human strength is insignificant, and with such a powerful, trustworthy Resource on our side by His choice, we need not retaliate foolishly or be overwhelmed by anxiety. God's power extends beyond brute force into qualities like love, intellect, wisdom, understanding, vision, logic, energy, eloquence, authority, forgiveness, and mastery in every area of activity. He is superior to any alternate source we might seek for help. Moreover, He renders to everyone according to their deeds, yet His correction, even when painful, is an act of love, for He is the pinnacle of mercy. To those who believe, no one is more qualified or trustworthy, and His power and willingness to act according to His purpose form the foundation of a believer's practical faith in Him.

Power Belongs to God (Part 1)

Feast of Tabernacles Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

Power belongs to God, and it is this fundamental truth that we must grasp to face the challenges ahead. He is the unseen force directing events to the conclusion He wills, and His goal is a certainty. As we are connected to Him through His Spirit, we are directly involved in this unfolding purpose. A firm conviction in God's ever-present power provides the perspective needed not just to endure difficult times, but to grow, overcome, and witness for Him in the best possible way. In times of trouble, we must turn to God first as our Deliverer. He is our Rock, a source of stability that prevents undirected anxiety. He is our Defense, with ways of deflecting attacks that no human can match. He is our Glory, the One in whom we take pride for all that He is, and our Refuge, an unqualified place of safety in any circumstance. As David declares in Psalm 62, God is our Salvation, our Deliverer from trouble, and we should seek Him above all others when in need. Power is not merely something God possesses; all power belongs to Him. It flows from Him, and He distributes it as He sees fit. No one can fight against God or nullify His will, for whatever He desires to accomplish in His creation will come to pass. This power encompasses not just brute force, but intellect, wisdom, understanding, vision, logic, energy, eloquence, authority, mercy, and countless other faculties. There is no help like Him anywhere, for He is superior to any source we might seek in times of need. David urges us to trust in God, for He is the only sure place of refuge. When trouble looms on a scale never before experienced, with nowhere to run, we must rely on spiritual resources and strengthen our relationship with Him now. God will always decide the outcome of any situation, rendering to everyone according to their deeds, with both justice and mercy. His power to act on behalf of His purposes is the very foundation of our faith in Him, and there is nobody more trustworthy.

The Sovereignty of God (Part Eight)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

God is our Deliverer, the One who holds the power to save us from the central issue of life—sin and death. He confidently claims the ability to deliver us from the grave, presenting the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ as primary evidence that it is possible to keep His commands with His Spirit. Though we cannot achieve perfection as Jesus did, we can strive to do better by choosing Him as our God. His sovereignty over creation ensures that nothing can stand in the way of accomplishing His will, reinforcing that He can deliver the goods as promised from the beginning to the end of His purpose. The issue is not whether God can do as He says, but whether we will choose to allow Him to lead us. He desires our salvation, and since no one can stay His hand, our hope of salvation derives from His unwavering commitment to work tirelessly toward this end. He loads us with daily benefits, all aimed at guiding us toward the escape and salvation He intends for each of us. Even in times of scattering or personal struggle, He remains able to save us, testing our faith to see if we will stand with Him alone, trusting Him step by step toward His Kingdom. He has not left us alone; He releases us from bondage, sets us on the path to His Kingdom, and empowers us with gifts and access to Him for help in times of need. His purpose is eternal, shaped by perfect goodness and unerring wisdom, needing no alteration due to our prayers. He knows the end from the beginning, and His unchangeableness is the foundation of our faith, ensuring that salvation by grace through faith remains steadfast. As our Father, He is consumed by the desire to save us from ourselves, never granting requests outside His loving purpose, guiding us to be conformed to His image with every decision He makes on our behalf.
