The Covenant of Blood (Part One)
CGG Weekly by Ronny H. GrahamMostlel, in his rebellion, sought to elevate himself above God, but his pride led to his downfall, cast out from the heavenly realm to become the adversary, satan. Meanwhile, the proverb "Blood is thicker than water" carries a familiar weight in our Western culture, emphasizing that family ties should take precedence over other relationships. Yet, a possible original form, "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb," reverses this meaning, suggesting that bonds forged by covenant surpass even familial connections. In Scripture, blood is deeply significant, often tied to life itself, as seen in Genesis 4:10 where it metaphorically cries out to God from the ground, and in Genesis 9:4 where God instructs Noah not to eat flesh with its blood, equating blood with life. Leviticus 17:10-14 repeatedly underscores this, declaring that the life of the flesh is in the blood, given by God for atonement upon the altar, and strictly forbidding its consumption with severe consequences for disobedience. Even hunters are instructed to handle the blood of their prey with care, pouring it out and covering it with dust. In Leviticus 16, God provides detailed commands for the high priest on the Day of Atonement, requiring the blood of the sin offering to be sprinkled on and around the altar and Mercy Seat to cleanse and consecrate it due to Israel's sin. Biologically, blood is indeed thicker than water, a vital substance full of life, transporting nutrients and oxygen, regulating temperature, fighting infection, and forming clots to prevent loss, underscoring its essential role in sustaining existence.
