Jeremiah 51:48 says heaven and earth and all in them will sing for joy over Babylon when destroyers come out of the north, and Deuteronomy 32:43 likewise calls the heavens to rejoice with Him because He avenges the blood of His children and repays those who hate Him. Those who love God and long for Christ's appearing can join this celebration, because destruction God brings is just and therefore worthy of praise. Babylon's fall also reflects the merism of God's goodness and severity. His wrath burns intensely but not long, and restoration follows quickly for those who are not doomed. Whether He acts in the fire of destruction or the water of His Spirit, His purpose stays the same: His plan, His work of reconciliation, and His great compassion.
