Shouting Gleanings and Singing Olives (Part One)
Sermon by Charles Whitaker (1944-2021)In the prophecy of Isaiah's apocalypse, spanning chapters 24 through 27, a vivid picture emerges of Jesus Christ's reign during the Day of the Lord, a time of divine judgment and ultimate victory over the entire earth. Amidst widespread devastation, where the earth staggers and the city of confusion is broken down, a profound change occurs as Christ returns in power and glory to take up residence in Jerusalem, establishing His rule over all kingdoms of the world. Two remnants, likened to grape gleanings and olives left on a shaken tree, are preserved by God through the cataclysm. These remnants, dispersed across the farthest reaches of the earth, from coastlands to the uttermost parts, will sing and shout in ecstatic praise of His majesty. Their songs stand in stark contrast to the wailing of the godless in the world-city of Babylon, which faces everlasting ruin at God's hand. These remnants, comprising both national Israelites and members of His church, are tasked with glorifying the victorious King of Israel, acknowledging Him as the God of heaven and earth who has mercifully saved them. As Christ reigns, He will be victorious over His enemies, ruling in the sight of His elders. His triumph marks the culmination of God's judgment, where He lays waste to mountains and hills, displaying both severity to His foes and kindness to the repentant. This reign signifies a new era, where the remnants' worldwide welcome through song and shout heralds the establishment of His divine authority over all the earth.
Trumpets and Hope
Sermon by Richard T. RitenbaughThe shout and the sound of the trumpet announce the inauguration of the reign of Jesus Christ on the earth. His return as King of kings and Lord of lords marks the beginning of God's Kingdom, where He will subdue all nations and grant an inheritance to His people. The entire earth will be in subjection to Him, as the battle flags of all nations will belong to God, establishing Him as King over all. At His second coming, accompanied by the great sound of a trumpet, He will gather His elect from across the globe. The seventh trumpet blast, the last among others, signifies the commencement of Christ's eternal reign on earth, from which He will never be usurped. As King and Judge, He will bring rewards to His prophets and saints who fear His name, while punishing those who destroy the earth and remain in sin. When the Lord descends from heaven with a shout, the voice of an archangel, and the trumpet's blast, the dead in Christ will rise first, meeting Him in the air. The living saints will then be changed and join them in the clouds, remaining at His side forever as brothers and sisters who have fought the same fight and share the same inheritance. He will continue His descent, land on the Mount of Olives, fight against those who oppose Him, and then commence His reign. Jesus Christ, having risen from the dead with a glorious spirit body, ascended to sit at His Father's right hand as our High Priest and soon-coming King. He upholds all things by His power, and His resurrection seals the victory over sin and death, confirming His role as our Mediator. Through His living presence, the process of forgiveness and sanctification continues, ensuring that His reign and our hope of eternal life in God's Kingdom remain steadfast and sure.
The Seventh Trumpet
Sermon by Richard T. RitenbaughThe Day of Trumpets signifies a profound turning point, marking the beginning of Jesus Christ's reign and God's government on earth. This day, central to the divine plan, heralds the return of Jesus Christ as King, coming in great wrath with an army to execute judgment upon the earth. The sounding of the seventh trumpet, as described in Revelation, announces this monumental event, proclaiming the establishment of the Kingdom of God. Loud voices in heaven declare that the kingdom of this world has become the Kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, signifying a transfer of power from earthly dominion to His divine sovereignty. The trumpet blast, lasting for days, underscores the gravity and duration of the events unfolding, including the seven last plagues that precede His return. These events culminate in Christ coming to finish the judgment, softening the enemies of God through successive plagues. At His coming, the saints are rewarded, and the first resurrection occurs, marking the fulfillment of the long-awaited Kingdom. The 24 elders, in humble obeisance, fall on their faces before Christ, exemplifying the proper attitude of submission and gratitude for His intervention in world affairs. They thank God for taking His great power and reigning, expressing joy that peace and righteousness will finally prevail under His rule. This reign brings both judgment and reward—punishment for the defiant nations and reward for the faithful servants, prophets, and saints who fear His name. The proclamation of Christ's coming and reigning is spoken with certainty, as if already accomplished, reflecting the assurance of God's plan. His return signals the destruction of those who harm the earth through sin, encompassing all who live in defiance unless they repent. Thus, the Day of Trumpets stands as a memorial of shouting and trumpeting, a reminder of the imminent establishment of Jesus Christ's reign over all humanity.
The Harvest is Almost In
Feast of Tabernacles Sermon by John O. ReidBrethren, we must recognize that without Jesus Christ ruling this entire world, there will never be true peace. Without Him reigning in us, in our kings, and in every nation, carrying out His commands will remain unaccomplished. This is why we pray, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. It will be a spectacular time when this harvest comes in. Can you imagine a world where everything you hear from leadership is absolute truth and entirely profitable? Good times are coming, even though the world does not appear so now. One of the first acts of Jesus Christ will be to bind satan with chains for a thousand years, removing his destructive influence that has permeated and ruined everything. This will grant a thousand years to work with the people. In an instant, there will be one language, uniting all in communication, which is mind-boggling to consider. Jesus Christ will rise as a special leader from the roots of Jesse, with the Spirit of God resting upon Him. He will possess true wisdom, understanding, the ability to give true counsel, and the strength of heart to meet all difficulties. He will be fearless and in charge of His duties. His judgment will be awesome, honest, and totally fair, and the wicked will be slain. We, as His people, will follow His lead, ruling with a rod of iron, without political correctness, but with love and true understanding of what is best for every situation. This is how a wonderful harvest will begin to form. Under His reign, there will be incredible peace. Even among animals, vicious natures will be changed to peaceful ones, and children will be safe around them. The deserts will bloom abundantly, reflecting the beauty and excellence of God like we have never seen. The Lord's house will be established, and the wonderful teaching emanating from it will reach people worldwide, even those who never came before but now wish to learn the way of Jesus Christ and the Father. They will see a future they never knew, and it will be truly wonderful for them. Jesus Christ and the church will become the center of religious living for the entire world. He will judge and settle controversies, so men will no longer learn war. After 6,000 years of conflict, at last, with Jesus Christ ruling, there will be peace. He will take on this assignment, and the world will experience a brand new way of living. This is the harvest we all long for, and we will remember for eternity the joy of the contrast from what was to what is.
Watch and Vigilantly Prepare
Sermon by Martin G. CollinsThe Feast of Trumpets heralds the return of Jesus Christ to intervene in world affairs, resurrect the firstfruits, and establish the Kingdom of God on earth. This feast symbolizes a vast turning point in world history, marking the changeover from the age of man, darkness, and satan to the age of God, light, the Millennium, and the Kingdom of God. It calls us to focus on truly eternal things: the return of Christ, the resurrection of the dead, and the end of man's rule. Jesus warned repeatedly to watch and vigilantly prepare for His second coming, emphasizing its sudden and unexpected nature through examples like a thief in the night, a master returning after a long journey, and a bridegroom arriving at midnight. These illustrations stress the necessity of constant readiness and faithfulness, urging His followers to stay awake and be prepared for His abrupt return. When Christ returns, He will come with the full authority of God the Father as the Commander of the army of the Lord to carry out the Father's will. His coming will be a time of divine warfare, where spiritual members of the Kingdom of God, under His leadership, will execute righteous judgment against rebellious human beings, not out of revenge or hatred, but as a merciful act according to God's will. This intervention will mark the end of satan's invisible dominion and the beginning of God's Sabbath-rest, establishing His law as the standard of conduct for all nations, bringing peace among them. The return of Christ, accompanied by the sound of the trumpet, will also be a time of gathering His remnant and searching out His lost sheep, representing the most massive gathering in history. His direct intervention in world affairs is the next event in the plan of redemption, essential for the resurrection of the dead and the attainment of eternal life. Despite the heavy emphasis on troubles and destruction during this time, the Feast of Trumpets ultimately offers God's people the greatest hope and rejoicing, inspiring a sense of purpose and direction for their efforts.
The Kingdom of God
Feast of Tabernacles Sermon by Richard T. RitenbaughThe soon-coming 1000-year millennial reign of Jesus Christ on the earth is a pivotal event we anticipate with great expectation. At the beginning of this period, one of the first acts of the Messiah will be to re-establish the Kingdom of God on the earth, restoring God's government as it was before satan's rebellion. This Kingdom, belonging entirely to God, is under His absolute sovereignty as its owner, creator, and ruler. He admits or bars entry at His will, with no one standing between Him and His dominion. The Kingdom of God is not only a concept of rule, reign, and royal power but will also become a literal place when Christ returns to set it up on the earth. Though currently in heaven, it will be restored to its rightful place on earth, where God intends to rule for all time. Christ will reign from Jerusalem for a thousand years, bringing all nations under the Kingdom of God. During this Millennium, the nations will flow into the Kingdom, and ultimately, Christ will deliver it to the Father after all opposition is subdued, establishing an eternal rule over the universe from a renewed earth. We, as citizens of this Kingdom, are considered ambassadors for Christ, already translated into the Kingdom of the Son of His love in a spiritual sense by God's eternal perspective. Though still flesh and blood and not yet having inherited the Kingdom in its fullness, we represent it now through our conduct and responsibilities. Our ultimate positions as kings and priests alongside Christ await us in the future literal Kingdom, where we will reign with Him for a thousand years and beyond into eternity.
The Ultimate Father's Day
Article by StaffThe Day of the Lord marks a pivotal time when Jesus Christ, the Son of God, initiates the final sequence of events in human affairs. This day focuses entirely on Him and His work, beginning a year before He touches down on the Mount of Olives and extending through His 1,000-year reign on earth, known as the Millennium. During this period, described in various ways such as the day of Christ or day of salvation, His purpose is to bring all humanity to know God the Father. At the conclusion of Christ's millennial rule, billions who never had the opportunity to know God will be resurrected. Their minds will be opened to the Book of Life and the Bible, offering them a chance to join God's Family. This occurs during the Day of the Lord, a time when every knee will bow to the name of Jesus, and He works to bring all creation into subjection to Himself. His reign continues until all enemies are subdued, even death, after which He will turn over the Kingdom to the Father. Following this, a new era begins—the ultimate Father's Day—when all converted spirit sons and daughters of God will live with and grow alongside the Father on a purified earth. This Day of the Father, as envisioned after Jesus' thousand-year reign, will see a new heaven and a new earth, with the holy city, New Jerusalem, descending from heaven. God Himself will dwell with His people, wiping away every tear, eliminating death, sorrow, and pain, and making all things new. Jesus will lead His brothers and sisters in honoring the Father, presenting a universe cleansed of sin, with every person living in total surrender to God's way. This marks the real Father's Day, a time of focus on the Father and His plans for His billions of children, all created in His image and character, living according to His teachings.
