Why Does God Allow Us to Be Afflicted?

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

God the Father experiences profound suffering due to the rebellion of His children, as depicted in the poignant image of a disappointed Father facing Israel's defiance. This rebellion is a deep offense against His love and holiness, yet it does not diminish His compassionate nature. His judgment, though necessary, is marked by sorrow as He allows His people to suffer the consequences of their choices, such as the removal of blessings from a nation. Despite this, His love remains evident, as He sympathizes with His people in all their trials, always desiring to aid them. His discipline, though it may seem prolonged to those enduring it, is but a moment in the grand scope of His plans, intended to ultimately bring about greater mercies and restoration. This suffering of God as a Father underscores His merciful character, revealing that He takes no pleasure in anger but is moved by a heart of kindness, ensuring that sorrow is temporary and will be followed by joy for those in friendship with Him.

Jesus' Sufferings on Passover

CGG Weekly by Ronny H. Graham

The Father turned away from Jesus when all the sins of mankind fell upon Him. Throughout the ordeal Jesus knew that His Father was watching while He suffered and every drop of life was drained out of Him. As Jesus hung on the cross He saw His Father turn away. The Father had to turn away because sin separates from God and all sins separated Jesus from His Father. The Father was also suffering. Despite it being part of His plan He was sacrificing the only Being that He could have a godly relationship with. God has deep feeling and emotion and as His Son bled out the Father was hurting. God endured this for us. The Father and the Son gave everything so that we can live eternally with Them.
