After the terrorist attacks of September 11, conspiracy theories quickly emerged that identified various groups as the controlling evil cabal, with some pointing to the Illuminati among others such as Big Oil, the Jews, or the Government. These theories arise within the interconnected realms of business, government, military, and cultural affairs, where people detect links everywhere, and a sizable portion of Americans accept at least some of them. The material notes that conspiracies do occur and can achieve their aims, with Scripture acknowledging multiple instances including the nations plotting against the Lord and His anointed in Psalm 2, a confederacy against God and Israel in Psalm 83, plots in the historical books, the betrayal of Joseph, the scheme against Jesus, and an end-time alliance of ten kings with the Beast, the False Prophet, and the Scarlet Woman in Revelation 17. Yet all such plots remain secondary to the single great conspiracy in which Satan and his demons seek to dethrone God and disqualify His potential children, a conflict that continues in the spiritual struggle described in Ephesians 6:12 and will culminate at Armageddon. The Illuminati theory, like every other human conspiracy, therefore shrinks to nothing beside this overarching satanic plan and functions mainly as a distraction that diverts attention from the one conflict believers are called to fight. Attention instead belongs on seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, fighting the good fight, and hastening the arrival of real peace and justice rather than attempting to unravel passing worldly schemes.
