Keeping God's Standards
Sermon by John O. ReidGod's Word is a sacred trust given to us, a standard by which we must live even in a world that is falling apart. We are called to maintain and uphold these standards, reflecting His nature in every aspect of our lives. The time is coming when Jesus Christ will impose His standards upon mankind, and they will learn to live by them, as God's Word will fill the earth. Until that day, we, as God's people, must not only maintain these standards but live by them diligently. We have been specially prepared by God to receive and understand His truth, a privilege not given to all. Out of billions, His truth has been entrusted to us, making us special in His sight. We are to feel the weight and responsibility of this calling, knowing that as we change and grow to become like Him, He will be glorified, and we will share in that glory. God's standards, rooted in the Ten Commandments, are the foundation from which everything else emanates, and we are instructed to hold and hang on to them at this time. Living by every word of God, we are to strive for perfection, aiming high to be holy and righteous in all we do. This calling is serious, requiring us to go beyond mere observance and to press on toward complete freedom from sin. As we work to become like God, our senses are heightened to discern good and evil, seeing the value of His way of life. We must take steps to overcome, yielding to God in faith to all His instructions, becoming one with Him and Jesus Christ, and thus achieving unity with each other through His standards. Our job in the Kingdom of God will be to reveal God the Father and Jesus Christ to the world, teaching both the practical and spiritual aspects of His law to those who are blind to these standards. We are in training now, learning to live by God's standards in this perverted world, preparing to teach them in the World Tomorrow. Satan will do all he can to separate us from this truth through craft, deceit, and discouragement, but we must stand firm, drawing close to God through fasting, prayer, and study, working out our own calling individually. We have been honored with the greatest calling and purpose possible, to be used to bring God's standards to mankind, teaching the world to live in unity with Him and in peace with their fellow man. Let us remember this responsibility and strive to keep His Word faithfully.
The Importance of God's Word
Commentary by Charles Whitaker (1944-2021)God's Word, when feared and respected, serves as a restraining force against unbridled carnality. Without respect for His Word, people run wild, casting off restraint, becoming ungovernable, and allowing law and order to disappear. Those who remain faithful to the instruction of God and His Word are blessed. God's Word, particularly the Laws codified within it, works to restrain individuals and collectively a society from the excesses of rampant carnality, acting as a positive good in any culture. When respected as His revelation, God's Word affords protection against lawlessness, making people tractable and governable, resistant to the expediency of demagogues. As a people lose sight of God's Word, their nation becomes less governed by law and more by political opportunists, with laws and policies turning relativistic rather than being founded on the immutable standards of God's Law. Such a people become easy prey for the flattering lies of the man of sin.
The Signs of God (Part One)
CGG Weekly by David C. GrabbeGod emphasizes the importance of His words, instructing that they must be impressed and fixed in the heart and life. He commands that His instructions be bound to the hand as a sign, symbolizing activity and work, so that every action is guided and hedged by His words. When we bind His instructions to our activities, it becomes a sign, communicating meaningful divine revelation. This obedience serves as a sign to the one following God's instructions, reminding him of the revelation received about how to live—a revelation much of mankind does not value. It is a perpetual statement that there is a God who has made a covenant out of His grace, and obedience testifies that He desires us to learn to live as He does. Furthermore, binding His instructions to our hands is a sign of the goal we pursue: to live just like the Son of God, reflecting His holy character image.
To Watch and Keep
'Prophecy Watch' by Charles WhitakerGod's Word, particularly the prophetic word, holds immense value for those called into His church. We believe in the prophecies, even when we lack full understanding, as Christ promises blessing to those who have not seen yet still believe. The prophetic word serves as a dynamic force, motivating us to watch, to keep, and to repent, driving us toward obedience and ultimately toward God's Kingdom. Believing in the images of disaster and blessing provided in His Word, we are spurred to action, countering complacency through faith. This faith, mirroring that of Jesus Christ, allows us to call things which do not exist as though they did, sharing the mind of God and viewing time through the eyes of faith. Thus, the word of prophecy, when believed and acted upon, becomes a powerful motivator toward salvation, even amidst incomplete understanding.
