The Importance of God's Word
Commentary by Charles Whitaker (1944-2021)God's Word, when feared and respected, serves as a restraining force against unbridled carnality. Without respect for His Word, people run wild, casting off restraint, becoming ungovernable, and allowing law and order to disappear. Those who remain faithful to the instruction of God and His Word are blessed. God's Word, particularly the Laws codified within it, works to restrain individuals and collectively a society from the excesses of rampant carnality. When respected and obeyed, God's Word is a positive good in any culture or society. As a people lose sight of God's Word as His revelation to them, they witness their nation becoming less governed by law and more by political opportunists in the name of expediency. Such a people, lacking the immutable standards of God's Law in His Word, become easy prey for the flattering lies of the man of sin.
Use God's Word as a Mirror
Sermonette by Bill CherryIf you merely hear God's Word without acting on it, you risk self-deception. God's Word serves as a mirror, reflecting the true state of who you are, but failing to act on what you see is like forgetting your own reflection. By continually living by God's Word with the right attitude, you will find blessing in your actions. God commands us to be doers of His Word for several reasons. First, God's Word begets us; it is the source of our nourishment and spiritual growth, penetrating our hearts and prompting change. Second, we are called to be firstfruits of His creatures, examples and teachers who use God's Word as a textbook to guide our lives and relationships, learning patterns that shape us for this life and beyond. Third, failing to do God's Word leads to self-deception; without action, we fool ourselves into thinking hearing alone is enough, missing the transformation that comes from living it out. Therefore, look into God's Word, continue in it daily, and be a doer, not merely a hearer, to avoid deception and to receive the promised blessing.
Do We Truly Honor God in Our Actions?
Sermon by Kim MyersAll Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness. His Word is essential for training and discipline, and it must be used to guide our beliefs and actions. Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God, as Christ Himself declared. We are called to be doers of the Word, for merely hearing it without putting it into practice is fruitless. If we truly believe these teachings, we must live by them consistently, not just in moments of convenience, but as a way of life. God commands us to keep His Sabbaths as a sign between Him and His people, to honor His holy day by refraining from our own pleasures and ways, promising blessings for obedience. We are instructed to tithe faithfully, saving for the Feast of Tabernacles as a means of learning to fear the Lord always, ensuring we attend without the burden of debt. Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and keep it, for obedience brings freedom and generosity at His appointed times. We must assemble where He places His name, recognizing the importance of gathering as a community under His guidance. Christ teaches that abiding in His Word marks us as His disciples, and rejecting His sayings will bring judgment by the very Word He spoke. God warns against being unequally yoked with unbelievers, protecting us from compromise and the potential loss of our faith, for His laws are rooted in love and designed for our good. He has handpicked us as firstfruits, calling us to live by every Word with a responsibility to reflect His will in our lives. Husbands are to be the head of the wife as Christ is head of the church, loving their wives as He loved the church, while wives are to submit willingly, fostering a partnership of mutual respect and care. The virtuous woman of Proverbs 31 exemplifies freedom, wisdom, and strength, managing her household with honor, far from being under oppressive control. God's Word brings wisdom and enriches our lives when we strive to live by it, improving our marriages and family relationships. We must keep His teachings, for claiming to know Him while failing to obey His commandments reveals a lack of truth in us. True love for God is perfected in those who treasure and observe His Word in its entirety. Discipline, including the rod of correction, is an act of love for our children, driving foolishness from their hearts and guiding them toward wisdom, contrary to the world's misguided notions. God's ways always work, delivering blessings when we trust in the purity of His every Word, refined like silver. We must be doers of the Word, obeying the message rather than merely listening and deceiving ourselves with reasoning contrary to His truth. Living by every Word of God is our duty, avoiding rebellion and the rejection of His commands, for His instructions are for our well-being and salvation.

Fully Accepting God's Sovereignty, Part Three: The Fruits
'Personal' from John W. RitenbaughGod's Word is characterized as dynamic and powerful, guiding us to become like the eternal, spiritual God. It is impossible to be formed into the image of Jesus Christ without His Word in us, as we must voluntarily cooperate with God in His purpose for Him to do the forming. This forming must be accompanied by our knowing and understanding His will. God's truths set us free from ignorance of Him and His purpose, from the power of evil, from the wiles of satan, and from human nature. As we come to see God, His Word becomes the only standard that truly meets our approval, reducing confusion and aiding in submission to His will. Without contact with Him and without submission to His purpose and plan, there is no salvation, making our whole-hearted submission to Him essential.
